"First Among Sequels" UK Editions To upgrade to TN5/V1.1, please follow instructions below: As is customary with early book releases, there are a few bugs that made it through the rigorous testing procedures for which Fforde books have not become legendary. The following instructions allow you to update your edition to an all new TN5/V1.1.
1: Editions covered by this upgrade: All Hodder hardback and Readers club softback editions. ON NO ACCOUNT attempt to upgrade any advanced Readers copies or UK editions; a 'deep text crash' may result which will render your book unreadable and may well wipe out all the planet's fiction. 2: Earth the book by touching it lightly against a dictionary. 3: If you are running your library on the outdated SCROLL V7.3 or PAPYRUS 2.8, please upgrade immediately to BOOK 8.3 which is available by downloading HERE . 4: If you are running the Beta Version of BOOK V9 or "UltraWord™" as it is known and have Anti-GrammasitePro™ or ReadZip™ activated, please disable before upgrade. Third party hardware ancillaries such as bookmarks, pressed flowers, old bus tickets, prophylactics, etc, must also be removed. 5: Using a fine black pen make the following corrections: i/ Turn to page 29 and where it says: "a possible pack of howlers in the Savenake" add an 'r' to make it 'Savernake'. (Alain Lewis of Tunbridge Wells - previously Swindon) ii/ Turn to page 56 and where it says: "horsehoe" add an 's' to make it 'horseshoe'. (Heather DuCharme Lochtie) iii/ Turn to page 60 and where it says: "tow the line" cross out 'tow' replace with "toe". This is a recurrent grammassitical problem which you will aso find on the "Something Rotten" upgrade page. (David Twigg-Flesner and Lizzie McLoone.) iv/ Turn to page 80 and where it says: "'I get it,' replied Thursday" add a '5' to the "Thursday". This is a Thursday5 speaking. (Mark Andersen.) v/ Turn to page 101 and where it says: "'had starting divergent eyes" add an 'l' to make "startling". (Mark Andersen.) vi/ Turn to page 113 and where it says: "She'd shown a peculiar flare for the subject" cross out 'flare' replace with "flair". (Helen Wardill, Thomas and Jordan.) vii/ Turn to page 183 and where it says: "Episilon"replace with "Epsilon". (Richard Humm) viii/ Turn to page 187 and where it says: "horse's"replace with "horses". (Richard Humm) ix/ Turn to page 215 and in the chapter heading where it says: "For the most part they are even handed, but need to watched" add the word ''be' so it reads "For the most part they are even handed, but need to be watched". (Sarah Barker.) x/ Turn to page 289 Where it says: "I put in my jacket pocket" add the word ''in' so it reads "I put it in my jacket pocket". (Richard Humm) xi/ Turn to page 308 (bottom paragraph) and where it says: "Next in line is the thinker of the house and Mrs Bennett's favourite:" cross out "Mrs" and replace with "Mr" (Jens Kleine) xii/ Turn to page 311 and in the chapter heading where it says: "convicingly" replace with "convincingly" (Richard Humm) xiii/ Turn to page 338 (bottom line) and where it says: "Königen" cross out and replace with "Königin" with an 'i' instead of an 'e'. (Gerhard and Verena.) iixx/ Turn to page 358 and where it says: "Freidrich" cross out and replace with "Friedrich". Thursday5 was just having a small problem with her German name spelling that day. Footnote Upgrade Alert

It has come to our attention that the entire first print run of the UK Hodder edition of First Among Sequels is missing the footnoterphone speech. These should be on pages 194, 195, 332, 333, 339, 392 and 393. This is especially annoying as it is the second side of dialogue, some of which moves the story on.
Since the books are already in the shops and thus too late for error slips, we are doing everything we can to try and alert readers as to the problem. We at Fforde towers would like to apologise for this oversight, and even though I'd like to claim it's something to do with an attempt to reduce the Stupidity Surplus, it isn't. It's a balls-up of the highest magnitude for which I apologise profusely. My publishers will provide a corrected paperback edition free of charge to anyone sending the title page and a return address to: 'Replace First Among Sequels offer' Hodder General 338 Euston Road London NW1 3BH PLEASE NOTE: The TN5 hardbacks are now out of print, so the replacement will be a paperback copy. The missing footnotes on page 194 should read:
1: 'Goodness! Already?' 2: 'This is really awkward. Jobsworth just called - he's overjoyed that you're taking Thursday and said that if we do a really good job, he would give Jurisfiction's extra funding his especial attention.' The missing footnotes on page 195 should read: 3: 'Bundles, old girl. Do this as a favour to old Bradders, eh? Just until the end of the day.' Best of British and all that.' The missing footnotes on page 392 should read: 12: 'Prego! Il Gatto del Cheshire?' 13: 'Sorry - just practising for my holidays in Brindisi this year. What can I do for you?' 14: 'Sure. Say, did you order a textual sieve lockdown on The Eyre Affair?' 15: 'Well, you've got one. Mesh is set to ultra-fine and time-locked - not even a full stop is going to get out of that book for at least twenty minutes.' The missing footnotes on page 393 should read: 16: 'No problemo, Outlander Amiga. Do you want me to keep you company?' 17: 'Prego! Il Gatto del Cheshire?'
