BookWorld, The. Name given to the world that exists within books, most usually to mean fiction but technically extends to everything else including The Oral Tradition, jokes, limericks, roadsigns, poetry, graffiti, non-fiction and washing machine instructions. Run by The Council of Genres from the 26th floor of The Great Library, the BookWorld is policed by Jurisfiction and word-managed by Text Grand Central. Nowadays travel is relatively safe but in the bad old days before the CofG, brigands and bandits were waiting to rob the innocent traveller. Early books were often made up of press-ganged characters from other books, waylaid while on holiday.
