SWINDON PHOTO ALBUM PICTURE 12 |
The famous 'spiral' stressed concrete multistory car ramp was designed and built in 1928 and is pictured here just prior to its removal to a theme park in Arizona. Used by Frank Lloyd Wright as inspiration for his clearly inferior Guggenheim Museum in New York, Swindon's spiral car ramp boasts an ingenious double-helix design so the 'up-ramp' and 'down-ramp' never converge. This picture can be dated by the 'SuperHoop-87' poster. This dramatic and historic croquet match was fought between the Swindon Mallets and The Goliath Gorrillas - the outcome of which is still hotly disputed. - Author's collection. |
