Wellington Wing Construction, 2003 This Vickers Wellington Mk1a was ditched in Loch Ness in 1940, and was recovered in 1985. It is now sitting in a hangar at Brooklands Museum, Surrey. Only one of two extant Wellingtons in the world, this is considerably more intersting than the example in the Hendon museum, because you can see the bare bones of the structure, and the 'geodetic' design championed by Barnes Wallis. There is a Hurricane in the same Hangar salvaged from a bog in Russia, and the prototype Harrier. Well worth a look. Nikon F3 Deltao 100 50mm Cropped Square To go to the POTW index, click HERE |
