Picture of the Week - 69 |
Cadillac Ranch, 1990 I wasvisiting the panhandle of Texas in 1990 and made a point to visit Cadillac Ranch just outside Amarillo on Route 66. Composed of 10 Cadillacs from 1949 to 1963, the installation was 'planted' in 1974 as a public installation piece by a group that called itself Ant Farm. By the time I got to see it much of the cars had been removed by souvenir hunters, and the cars were mostly ungrafittied, as they get a sporadic repainting, on this occasion, pale blue. Not to deter graffiti artists, but to simply reblank the canvas. The Ranch is still there, but two miles to the west. This was taken in its original location. Worth a visit if you are in the area.
