The designers painted the stars in reverse, as that was the map they worked from - a reflection of the stars, not how they are laid out. Popular legend tells us this is 'as God would see it' but since stars are not equidistant, this is not a view you could see from anywhere in the cosmos - except here, and glorious it is. Whenever I go to NY, I always take time to wander thourhg this magnificent hall. And to think it was once slated for demolition.
