Penguin pool, London Zoo, August 2011.
The gorgeously realised concrete double-helixed cantilever penguin enclosure designed in the late thirties and wholly unsuited for Penguins. The rather lovely Casson Elephant House is the same - fantastic piece of design that won prizes, plaudits, and fame for Sir Hugh Casson. Absolutely no bloody good for elephants. Both protected buildings. The penguin pool is a fountain feature, the elephant house for smaller animals more suited to it - like wild pig, and humans fond of architectural design.
